Blount Fine Foods
Director of retail sales, with responsibility for the entire country

Years with company:
This is my first year with Blount Fine Foods, but I’ve worked with the company as a broker for the last six years.

Education degrees and professional/volunteer organizations:
I studied food safety at Penn State University, but came up the retail grocery ranks the hard way.  I started in a deli and worked my way up to heading sales and purchasing at multiple large grocery chains and distributors.

Mentors and how have they assisted you in your career:
Bob Sewall – for teaching me the soup business and how to better build customer partnerships that lead to successful product programs.  I am also fortunate to come from a family that instilled in me a strong work ethic.

What are you most proud of in your career achievements? Do you have a defining moment of your career to date?In an industry lacking female role models, I have always tried to support young women I see working hard to get ahead, and to network with my female peers so that we may all enjoy professional success. I am also proud of knowing and understanding my customers to a degree that I have enjoyed long-lasting business relationships.   As odd as it sounds, as someone who toiled for years as a broker, and saw the good and bad of manufacturers, I viewed joining Blount, a company I see as one of the very best in the business, as a defining moment for me professionally.

Most challenging part of your job:
Two things: the first is working to stay ahead of and in control of the emerging trends in the marketplace so that our customers maintain a fresh and in-demand offering.  The second is keeping up with the demand from customers that are new to Blount, which is a wonderful challenge to have.

Advice for upcoming younger executives:
You can spend years building your reputation and the relationships that make you successful, and you can lose both in an instant.  Protect them by working hard at something you love and have passion for.

Hobbies:
When away from work, I enjoy entertaining, time with family and hitting the gym.
