Mentors and how have they assisted you in your career:
By watching my father’s passionate work ethic I was inspired to always be positive, proactive, and motivated. These life lessons helped me to sustain my companies during an unstable economy. My mom was my biggest cheerleader, always coaching me to believe that any woman could be just as successful as any man. The combination of the two made the perfect mentors.
What are you most proud of in your career achievements? Do you have a defining moment of your career to date?
In 1999 my husband and business partner, Joe Bishop, passed away. I am proud of the fact that I was able to maintain both of our businesses and provide my children with college educations. C.A. has become a premier promotional event company in the New England and Mid-Atlantic area in partnerships with Ahold U.S.A., Duane Reade, and Market Basket. M3 leads the way as a merchandising company supporting local retailers and brokers. Last year we were runner up in the Massachusetts Family Business Awards, which I feel is a testament to the drive and motivation we possess to make our companies the most successful enterprises they can be.
Most challenging part of your job:
Of course with any family business, the dynamics of working with your sons can present daily challenges. However, in the end we are all in it for the same reasons: to carry on a family business.
Advice for upcoming younger executives:
I can’t emphasize this enough, “Find a career that you are passionate about so that you will never feel like you are going to work.” In the end when you are successful, give back to those who truly need it! Lastly, at the end of the day all you have left is your reputation so never compromise your principles regardless of the circumstances.
Hobbies:
I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren. I love gardening, golfing, volunteering and a little shopping here and there.
