Sagres Consulting LLC

Position and years with company:  I am currently Managing Principal, Sagres Consulting LLC, but was most recently vice president of retail marketing for Walgreens. I spent the last 13 years at Walgreens in various marketing and merchandising leadership roles.

Education degrees and professional/volunteer organizations:
I received my M.B.A. in Marketing from DePaul University and my B.A. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame. I am currently the Chair of the Board for the Network of Executive Women. I have been a member since 2006 and have served on the board for the last three years.

Mentors and how have they assisted you in your career:
I have been fortunate to have several mentors throughout my career. They challenged me to take on new and unique responsibilities. They provided opportunities to expand my experience and they were all excellent listeners!

What are you most proud of in your career achievements? Do you have a defining moment of your career to date?
I am most proud of the times that I developed something new and innovative. I like solving problems that others have determined were too difficult to solve. Whether a new planogram layout to meet the needs of our unique customer segments or a new lens on our customers I am most proud when I believe that I was able to make a significant and lasting impact on our business.

Most challenging part of your job:
The most challenging part of the job is ensuring that the team has what they need to do their jobs effectively and efficiently. In retail, resources are always scarce and insuring that your team is in a position to succeed is critical. I have learned that you hire great people and get out of their way but you also need to provide them with the tools and resources maximize their potential.

Advice for upcoming younger executives:
My advice for younger executives is to be open to possibilities. Twenty years ago I never could have written my story but as my career progressed I looked for new opportunities and experiences wherever possible.

When I am not working my husband John and I love to pass on our passion for travel to our two boys but we also love our time with them in Cub Scouts, at swim meets, Tae Kwon Do, soccer and baseball.
